A few months ago, Kay messaged me asking if we could swap photos – I was all about the idea!! These two lit a fire in me for something that already burned bright. I’m loving Latch Sessions & I hope this is the first of many to come. I can relate to how sacred these nursing minutes are…knowing your baby is in his or her happy place, feeling the warmth of your skin, locking eyes & soaking it all in. I know it’s important to be able to relive THESE MOMENTS.
THESE MOMENTS RIGHT HERE…
Nash & I have almost made it to a FULL YEAR of breastfeeding – this was the goal I set for us, & I’m so proud to say we are almost there. Breastfeeding is HARD. If a mom tells you it’s easy, please know that she maaaaay be throwin a little sugar on that statement. It is tough & it takes complete dedication & solid commitment.
Sleepless nights. Nursing 3-4 times nightly. Nursing on demand. Dealing with initial engorgement. Mastitis. Nursing friendly clothes. Nursing in public. Worrying about judgements. Worrying about comments. Worrying about getting stared at. Lack of freedom. Proper latch. Introducing bottles. Nipple confusion. Pumping (oh gosh this is annoying). Letdown. Spraying milk everywhere (struggle). Worrying about enjoying a glass of wine (initially!). I could go on…
It is giving your entire SELF to your baby – as not only a source of nutrition. But also comfort, & most importantly, love.
It’s their sense of security. A bond like no other.
& while all the above probably doesn’t make nursing sound like rainbows & unicorns, it’s because nursing is not rainbows & unicorns. Just know the struggles are worth it but they are so real.
If you’re a new mom reading this PLEASE don’t feel discouraged by my post – it’s just the honest truth. If it’s important to you, keep pushing. You & your baby will get through this together & it will seriously be one of the best things you’ve ever done. If you’re able to nurse & produce for your little one – please give breastfeeding a try.
All of this leads me to this.
Kay and Aubrey nursed for 21 months!!!!! How amazing & how beautiful.
Kay – you are a wonder woman & I admire you. Thanks for letting me be a part of these little moments with baby girl.
